Obidegwu, Benjamin is the managing partner of Hermon Barristers & Solicitors, one of Nigeria’s leading full service commercial law firms. He is recognized as a leading practitioner in Nigeria’s capital market operations as a highly sought after consultant in capital market transactions documentation. Furthermore, his work has spanned the gamut of project finance, cross-border commercial transactions, commercial litigation, and business advisory.
Obidegwu received his legal training from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and was called to the Nigerian Bar as solicitor and advocate in 1990. He worked with Prof. Yemi Osinbajo in the law firm of Osinbajo, Kukoyi & Adokpaye, before the firm transitioned to Hermon and he took over operations as the firm’s managing partner.
Over time, Obidegwu whittled his law practice areas, later focusing on the areas that best hold his interest and which he has the strongest natural flair for: project finance, real estate, capital market and corporate advisory. He further works across niches like FMCG, Banking and Edutech. Obidegwu is also a public speaker and the chair of the Capital Market Solicitors Association. He aspires to change the face of capital market transaction and get lawyers to “play more leading roles in these transactions”.
To give back to the community that had helped nurture him, Obidegwu engages in corporate social responsibility projects. He is the chairman of Obodoukwu community in Imo State and also secretary with Igboekulie, a cultural initiative geared towards fostering Igbo language and culture among young people in Nigeria and the Diaspora.
